An Island Is Born
A narrated short film with music made for this film about how the Hawaiian Islands were made. Deep under the Pacific, a hot spot partly melts rock in the mantle. Watch magma rise through the plate, lava cool into pillows in the cold water, and a volcano grow until its top breaks the surface in clouds of steam. Then the plate carries the island away, it goes quiet and wears down, and new volcanoes form a chain. It ends under the sea off the Island of Hawaiʻi, where the youngest volcano, Kamaʻehuakanaloa, is still growing. Personal, creator, and public display licenses. From $25.
